Spring-for-SIDS Virtual 5k

Many of you have decided to postpone your in-person event this year due to COVID-19.  So, our SFS Advisory Council has come up with a virtual event that all teams can do together. We hope you and your team members will be interested in participating in the 2020 Spring-for-SIDS Virtual 5K.

Hello Spring-for-SIDS Teams,

My name is Carrie Krumwiede and our sweet boy Payton passed away from SIDS at 2 months old in 2008. In 2010 we reached out to The American SIDS Institute for guidance, and a way to help raise funds for studies and to help other families. I have met so many wonderful people while on this journey. I was told early on that we are all now in a part of a “club” that we don’t want to be a part of. With this so called “club” we can do amazing things in the memory of our sweet children.

This year has been a difficult one for many of us and fundraising has seemed to slip to the bottom of our lists. I was thinking that if we all came together to do our part in helping to provide funds for research we can still help from our homes.

Our SFS team, Payton’s Peeps, has organized silent auctions, cornhole tournaments, and walks in the past. But this year we do not feel like we can be successful with those events. I know firsthand that it takes a lot of work to put on events like this. So, if we could all come together virtually as one big group, I feel that we can still be successful.

The idea of a virtual 5K was brought up and here are my thoughts, I would very much appreciate it if you could respond to this e-mail letting me know if it is something you would like to participate in and how many people you think you could get involved. Please remember we are just now starting with this and ideas would be welcomed.

Virtual 5K ideas:

● SFS Teams would ask participants to sign up and pay an entry fee of $31 on their SFS team page. (Team captains would receive an email when someone signs up.)

● Participants would have a month to complete their 5K miles. (I am not sporty so it will take me that long. )

● Individuals will record their own data.

● Pictures would be shared with your team participants on social media.

● Possibly window clings to be provided when they complete the 5K.

These are my thoughts so far. Please respond letting me know your thoughts. I appreciate your time and would love your feedback.

Love,

Carrie Krumwiede
